We often forget the necessity of self-care when we are immersed in taking care of our loved ones. We are so focused on making sure our family member feels safe, comfortable, and supported that we sometimes dismiss even our basic needs, let alone our emotional needs.
The truth is that no one deserves and requires more care than the caregiver.
The number one reason, given by family caregivers for the lack of self-care is the belief that every waking moment must be spent with the loved one and that there is just no extra time in the day for self. Many caregivers also have no one else to step in and help.
Caregivers may feel physically exhausted, mentally depleted, and perhaps even resentful or guilty because they believe we aren't doing enough. We deserve the support and care that can make all the difference in our overall health and well-being. We must not forget that the better care we give to ourselves as caregivers, the better care and availability we will have for those that need us.
Counseling and coaching are paramount elements for the self-care of caregivers. Caregivers need a space to vent, share, cry, or rage. Caregivers also need support, compassion, and understanding. These are all very valid needs.
Social Bridges 4 Life offers a comprehensive all-inclusive program that aids in all the areas that the caregiver may need, including emotional support.
Counseling and coaching sessions can be done in person, by phone and via video chat.
